Since 1870 the Losi, ancient wine-makers family in Chianti, committed themselves to produce high quality wine. Tranquillo Losi, founders of the estate, chose as oenologist the famous Tancredi Biondi Santi, creator of Brunello di Montalcino, from who he learned a lot of secrets for producing fine wines and then handed down to his sons, Carlo, Alfiero and Emilio, and then, to his nephews, Pietro and Paolo. Over the generations, the Losi family succeeded at preserving the traditional and authentic wine-making culture of Chianti, involving the fifth generation, Riccardo e Valeria. L'enoteca di Ghino wine bar and store, which opened in 1996, is situated on the ground floor of a historical building in the centre of Pienza, the pearl of Renaissance architecture in the heart of the Val d'Orcia. Ghino Poggialini and his son Patrick will give you a warm welcome and help you choose the best wine to suit your tastes and requirements, thanks to their extensive experience. Their cellar boasts 2,000 different Italian and foreign wines. Here you can sample local specialities such as Brunello di Montalcino or Nobile di Montepulciano and purchase prestigious grappa and distillates, as well as a selection of extra virgin olive oils. Il Magnifico bakery is situated in Via dei Pellegrini, a short distance from Piazza del Campo and Siena's Cathedral. In addition to daily bread the owner, Lorenzo, prepares a vast assortment of Sienese delicacies, such as ricciarelli, panforte, panpepato and cantuccini, with passion and dedication. One of his specialities is pan co' santi, a typical raisin-filled sweet loaf made only in the period around All Saints Day (1 November). Entering the bakery, you will receive a warm welcome and be invited to taste various sweet delights before buying. Visits to the "laboratory" behind the shop, in which Lorenzo creates his many specialities, can be organized upon request.

Il Cacio di Ernello

Bagnolo farm, belonging to the Ernello family, makes the famous cacio di Pienza cheese from milk produced exclusively by their 700 sheeps. This family-run business guarantees high quality products, made using traditional methods and with the help of modern technologies. The whole family has been involved in the production of cheese for generations, following the rhythms of the seasons and the phases of the moon. As well as pecorino (ewe's cheese) of varying maturity, they produce formaggio di fossa (cheese matured in underground pits), ricotta, yoghurt, and organic extra virgin olive oil, obtained by cold pressing their hand-picked olives. The farm offers accommodation in its agriturismo and can arrange guided visits of the cheese production cycle and tastings for groups (booking required).
