San Gimignano and its towers

We'll visit the historic town of San Gimignano, named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990 thanks to the fact that it has nearly perfectly preserved the characteristics of a 13th-14th-century city, and famous worldwide for its 14 soaring Medieval towers.
We'll walk along the main street to Piazza della Cisterna, the town's ancient marketplace, and nearby Piazza del Duomo, where we'll see the Collegiata as well as the City Hall, now the site of the Civic Museum.
Here, if you like, we can climb to the top of the Torre Grossa tower (54 m.) and enjoy the spectacular panorama of the surrounding hills. If time permits and if you're wine lovers, we can conclude our visit at a winery with a tasting of an excellent Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
